Google Scholar

I, too, like to use Google sometimes for my personal research (although I prefer to use the library's databases for academic research).

Google does have some interesting functions, though, that are helpful for more scholarly oriented research.

1. Go to www.google.com
2. At the top of the page, you should see a horizontal list of items (web, images, videos, maps, ...)
3. Click on "More" (the last item on the list) and a drop-down menu will appear
4. Click on "Scholar"

Now, you are at what is called "Google Scholar." This is a great search engine! It sorts through all of the websites offered by Google and then only picks the ones that are focused on academic research. That is, you won't get personal webpages, blogs, or sites selling you anything. They are typically links to articles and essays that have been published in academic journals.

These sites will automatically be more credible than the general sites that regular Google will take you to. But, again, remember that you still need to analyze these sources yourself!
